Trademarks and Licensing

LMU's trademark licensing program protects LMU's brand and reputation by careful stewardship of the university name and official marks, ensuring that LMU presents a positive and consistent image to the world.

LMU’s visual identity system marks are trademarked with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and may not be altered, distributed, nor licensed without permission from LMU Marketing and Communications. The formal licensing program, administered by Learfield Licensing Partners, maintains quality and consistency of the LMU brand across all applications on merchandise, apparel and swag. To accomplish this, LMU requires that all products bearing university trademarks are manufactured by a licensed vendor. Our trademarks include logos, symbols and words that represent LMU.

Benefits of Licensing

Using licensed vendors to order and purchase products helps LMU protect our brand and reputation in a few ways.

  • All orders are checked by Learfield and LMU for quality and brand compliance.
  • Licensed vendors comply with LMU's ethical commitment to fair labor standards through our affiliation with the Worker Rights Consortium.
  • Licensed merchandise earns royalties for LMU.

Use a Licensed Vendor

Individuals and organizations--including LMU departments and programs--are asked to use licensed vendors when placing orders for promotional items, apparel and swag. Choose an approved vendor from the list below.

If you work with a vendor who is not on this list, direct them to learfieldlicensing.com/licensing to apply for a license.

Purchase Licensed Merchandise

When purchasing LMU gear, always look for the "Officially Licensed Collegiate Product" hologram sticker attached to the product. All products in the LMU bookstore and the LMU Athletics Online Store are licensed.

Become a Licensed Vendor

Vendors interested in selling promotional items or merchandise bearing LMU marks must first obtain a license. Learn more about applying for a license at apply.clc.com.

Visual Identity and Logo Use Guidelines

All merchandise and promotional items bearing LMU names and marks must adhere to LMU's visual identity standards and logo use policy.

License Management

Learfield Licensing Partners is the licensing representative for the university. As LMU's representative, they are responsible for administering the licensing program, including processing applications, collecting royalties, enforcing trademarks and pursuing new market opportunities for the University.
